Cato has released a new study on infrastructure spending. The study discusses how federal involvement in infrastructure has many serious disadvantages, and few, if any, advantages. It examines the worldwide trend toward privatization and PPPs for highways, bridges, airports, and much else. The United Stateshas been a laggard on these innovations. The study also discusses the often-heard claim that our roads/bridges are “crumbling.” It turns out that Federal Highway Administration data show that our highways and bridges have shown substantial and continuous improvements in quality over the last two decades.
